Kierkegaard’s Korner

Soren Kierkegaard

“Having a personal relationship with God is the highest calling of a human being superseding all set moralities, social structures and communal norms”.

“The universe is fundamentally paradoxical.  The greatest paradox being the transcendent union of God and man in the person of Christ”.

“God can neither be rationally proven or explained. One must transcend the rational by a Leap of Faith to have a personal relationship with God. Individuals exist in a state of anxiety until they make that Leap of Faith”.

“Individuals have a responsibility to make choices and no imposed structures (even Biblical commandments) can alter the responsibility of the individual to please God in whatever personal and paradoxical way God chooses to be pleased”.   ( from Fear and Trembling)

“The most compelling reason to believe in the existence of God is that there is no evidence to the contrary”.

“If I am capable of grasping God objectively, I do not believe, but precisely because I cannot do this I must believe”

“Faith is the highest passion of a human being. Many in every generation may not come that far, but none come further”.

“Life can only be understood backwards, but it must be lived forwards”.
